According to Google, page experience update for desktop is done rolling out.
Now it’s time to evaluate the impact.
Page Experience Update for Desktop – Assessing The Impact
This update may have caused positive or negative changes in desktop search result rankings on or after March 3.
Use Google’s tool to look at your site’s page experience score to see if this is the case.
Google Search Console offers a report dedicated to analyzing Page Experience criteria, for desktop versions of webpages.
Use the Search Console report to have more information on how the page experience update has impacted your website.
If the majority of your pages are in the red or yellow sections of the report, any ranking decreases on March 3 were most likely caused by the page experience update.
Criteria for Page Experience Update for Desktop:
Many of the ranking factors in Google’s page experience update for desktop search are the same as those in the algorithm that launched on mobile search last year.
- Ranking factors for desktop page experience include:
- Core Web Vitals (LCP + CLS + FID) HTTPS Security
- Absence of intrusive interstitials
If your website fails to match any of the above mentioned requirements, you will not get any benefit from the page experience ranking boost on desktop.
A decline in ranking does not imply that your site is being penalized for failing to meet Google’s page experience requirements.
It means that sites that fulfil Google’s criteria may rank higher than you, causing your pages to rank lower.
Therefore, improving your page experience score is necessary to help you regain those ranking positions and remain competitive.
Don’t Expect Drastic Changes:
Google said with this rollout and this new Google update, do not expect drastic ranking changes.
